Here’s how to create an espresso martini without an espresso machine.

Ingredients

  • 1 heaped tablespoon of ground coffee - use whichever grind size is suitable for your brew method
  • 18ml Kahlúa
  • 35ml vodka
  • Water
  • Ice

Equipment

  • Martini glass
  • Brewer of your choice e.g. V60, AeroPress or cafetière
  • Cocktail shaker

Method

  1. Brew one heaped tablespoon of ground coffee with 40ml of water using your chosen brew method.

Tip: You want strong coffee for this, so let the grounds steep for at least five minutes. If using a filter method, heat the coffee and water on the stove for five minutes on a low heat before pouring through the filter.

  1. Allow coffee to completely cool.
  2. Half fill your shaker with ice.
  3. Add the Kahlúa, vodka and cooled coffee to the shaker.
  4. Shake vigorously until the shaker becomes extremely cold.
  5. Pour through the strainer into your glass - and enjoy!
